How Do I Deal With Depression After An Accident Left Me A Paraplegic?
Would like to apologise for bothering you but I would like some advice on how to deal with depression. I am retired and experienced a work related accident that left me a paraplegic. I went through therapy and was able to learn how to do things for myself, except drive. I have asked family and friends if they would help me and the stated no, we do not want to be seen with a crimp. They openly accepted me when I could walk and do things for them. Now when I need them forget it. I am feeling lonely and sudical depressed. Alls I would like now is to blow myself away, take my gat and put it through my brains. But for some really retarded reason another part of me wants to live. I absolutely do not know what to do, I am scared. Right now as I am posting I feel like I am in a dark room with the walls squeezing in on me and there is no way out. Could you please give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. And again really sorry for bothering you.

Thanks for your query.
First thing I want to convey you is that you are neither bothering us nor you have to be sorry for asking for help.We doctors here are always there to help you.
All of us need help at some time or other. It is very unfortunate to learn that your friends and family have given up on you when you needed them the most.
Second thing is dont let suicidal thoughts come in your mind ever.
Since you have survived the accident this only shows that you have some job left here assigned to you by god and its gods will that you live life.
As you have posted this query here i can learn that you are fighter by nature and you have adjusted to your new life in a positive way.
The first step in treating depression is recognizing that you are depressed.
The second step is seeking help.
These two steps may in fact be the hardest part of the entire treatment process.
Early recognition and treatment will offer you the greatest chance of recovery, and the earlier you seek help the greater the chance that recurrences can be prevented.
If your symptoms indicate that you have clinical depression, your health-care provider will strongly recommend treatment.
Treatment may include supportive therapy, such as changes in lifestyle and behavior, psychotherapy, complementary therapies, and may often include medication.
If your symptoms of depression are severe enough to warrant treatment with medication, you are most likely to feel better faster and for longer when medication treatment is combined with psychotherapy.
Once you seek help from a qualified health care provider, you will find that there are numerous treatment options to help you get back on track.
Many new effective medications are available which very well treat your symptoms.
Many paraplegics are able to do many things of interest with use of technology.
You can join any self help group on the net which will give you ideas to cope with the situation.
Hope this helps you.
You can always ask any queries.
I will be more than happy to help.
Take care.
Just would like to state that I really appreciate you taking your time in posting back to me and yes your response back was helpful.
Noticed that you mention that it was God's will for me to go on. Was wondering if you gave advice in the Christian world, or know of someone I could talk with about that? I have alot of things I would like to ask someone concerning my relationship with God.
Again sir, thanks ever-so-much for your help and concern it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
I can understand that you have a lot of questions and talking to do . Perhaps you need to find someone who can listen to you patiently .
You can visit your nearest therapist to get guidance.
Talk therapy is an extremely effective treatment for depression.
Therapy gives you tools to treat depression from a variety of angles. What you learn in therapy gives you skills and insight to help prevent depression from coming back.
Although there are many types of mental health professionals, one of the most important things to consider when choosing a therapist is your connection with this person.
"The right therapist will be a caring and supportive partner in your depression treatment and recovery".
There are many ways to find a therapist. 'Word of mouth' is one of the best ways to find a good therapist.
Your friends and family may have some ideas.
Your primary care doctor may be able to provide an initial referral.
National mental health organizations can also help with referral lists of licensed credentialed providers.
Hope this helps.
Wish you find a best therapist. Good luck.
Regards.
This is not a question, but a statement. I would like to extend to you my greatest appreciation for all the help that you have given me. I will heed your advice and look into a good and caring therapist. It will have to me on my own, since like I stated previous, friends and family don't give a darn about me.
Again sir, thank-you ever-so-much and it was good to know you. Please take care and thanks again for your help.
