How Does NT Scan Help In Knowing The Fetus Growth Status?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: My wife is 12 week pregnent and our Gynac Dr had asked us to do a NT scan along with a blood test to know if the fetus risk profile is high or low. We conducted the NT scan yesterday and given the blood samples for further testing. The Dr performing the scan informed us tha the scan results are normal on completion of scan. However, when we got the report, in the Anatomy section the Dr has mentioned some body parts as visible and he left kidney and spine line items as blank.
Now my concern is in the NT scan was he looking for kidney and spine too, or he just mentioned other parts live bladder, stomach which are apperant and visible. The Dr took some 1 hr to perform the scan as he was not getting the right position of the fetus which is the back side. He performed 3 scan from abodement with a interval of 15 min each and finally did the internal scan to get the reading for NT scan.

so to conclude is there anything to be worried about keeping the coloums of kidney and spine blank. I am attaching the copy of report for your reference

Brief Answer:
Normal report

Detailed Answer:
Hello, i understand your health concern.
I have seen your report and it is perfectly normal in all respects.
But he should have mentioned the status of spine for sure.
Kidneys are at times not visible when the back of fetus is not touching mothers belly.
So you need to discuss about spine of the baby, because at least some part of spine can be assessed in this position of baby.
Just wait for 4 weeks and get a repeat scan which will help us in assessing the proper growth of baby along with the status of spine.
Take care.
