Brief Answer:
Not recommended below 60yrs

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for posting the concern in HCM.
This vaccine is not recommended for routine use below 60yrs. Although in some countries it has been recommended for routine use above 70 yes, the vaccine has been found to effective above 60 yrs of age.

This is a live attenuated single dose vaccine, to be used subcutaneously alone or along with other live vaccines. It is quite safe. In a small proportion of patients varicella like rashes occur. But, no vaccine related deaths have occurred till date. The vaccine is for single use and should be used within 30min of reconstitution. The vaccine is contraindicated in children and immunocompromised patients, like HIV patient, patient on immunosuppressive therapy and pregnant women. This vaccine can be given regardless of past history of shingles. The vaccine is quite effective in sense that it reduced incidence of shingles by 51% and PHN by even more than that in large trials.

Regarding the question that how it works,in simple terms I would say, it stimulates body's immune response similar to the infection because it is a live vaccine. But, there will be no toxic effect like that in the disease because it is attenuated and so devoid of the harmful effect of the virus.

I hope this information is helpful to you. For any further information, please write back. If you are satisfied with the answer, please close the thread and rate my answer.
