How Effective Is Levaquin In Managing Bladder And Blood Infection?
Question: My wife has just been told that she has an infection in her bladder and blood. The doctor has identified the infection as klebsiella and they plan to send her home today on oral levaquin. Should she be staying in the hospital till we know if this will work? They just put her on contact isolation!
Brief Answer:
Hello dear. She can stay at home.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
I have gone through the details.
Your doctor has chosen oral levofloxacin depending upon the sensitivity results of the bacterial culture. As levofloxacin is sensitive, it must eradicate the bacteria and hence there is no need for isolation and it will work for sure. Just apply universal precautions of safe hand washing and hygiene.
However, a point of concern. If this bacteria has grown in culture of blood, then patient must be admitted in the hospital till the time he is infection free, as blood infections are sometimes serious in nature for the patient.
Thanks and regards

She is being released from hospital, with instructions to return her to hospital if fever developes. Since I, one of her care givers, was recently released from hospital due to asthma and pneumonia, does she pose any threat to my health? What should I do to avoid any contamination?
Do I have to worry about contamination transmission? I have also been in a hospital with asthma and pneumonia....am I endangered as one of her caretakers?
