How Effective Is Lexapro And Keppra In Treating OCD Symptoms?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: I am on Lexapro 40 mg, Keppra 1500 mg, Zyprexa 5 mg and Klomopin 2 mg. For the while, these meds are supposed to fight an OCD like symptom created before by Solian 100mg (i stopped Solian/amisulpride two weeks ago). I feel very much better, but i still have some symptoms and i would like to know if another med can create also this kind of symptom, for example, if Keppra can also create some OCD symptoms or Klonopin if bad acetylation.
Thanks beforehand

Brief Answer:
Both drugs are safe if metabolism of the drugs is considered

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. If we consider metabolism of Keppra and Klonopin then both of these drugs are relatively safer as far as your concerns about OCD is concerned.

Klonopin or Clonazepam is a Benzodiazepine drug and the drug is metabolised by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes. You are inter mediate metaboliser of CYP2C19 (based upon our old conversations) so there would not have much risks on its metabolism considering your genetic status.

Levetiracetam or Keppra is anti-seizrue and mood stabiliser drug. Metabolism of this drug doesn't occur in liver instead most of the drug is excreted unchanged in urine while about 30-40% of the drug is metabolised in blood by hydrolysis. So it has very suitable pharmacokinetics.

So over all both drugs are safe and you will not have any risk of OCD like symptoms with these drugs.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Take care
