Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
Yes, this XXXXXXX vaccine is effective almost 100% with effect from the first dose and when you will complete all the 5 doses, you will be protected for about 5 to 10 yeas with this vaccine.
However, you may need to take one booster dose after a year if you will have exposure of dog bite again after 1 year.
Generally, antibiotics are given when there is large wound bitten by some street dog otherwise you can just wash the wound with using soap or antiseptic solution and sterile water.
Injection tetanus toxoid 1 ampoule at Intramuscularly once should also be taken.
Also, Rabies is extremely rare today and vaccine is not indicated unless wild or more suspicious animal bites you like a street dog.
So, there is nothing to be worried here, you will have full protection once you will complete all the five dosages.
In case, dog dies during immunization time period then you must take optional booster dose (at 90 days) and rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) may then be considered.
Hope this will help you. Let me know if you have a more question.

Dr.Sandip Kabra

Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for the reply.
If wound is not large and not bleeding, then it can be managed with daily dressing using antiseptic cream or ointment.
In case if there is mild bleeding occasionally then you see your doctor,he will open the bandage and will stop the needing first by applying pressure gauze or local hemostatic substances.
Your doctor will know about it.
This kinds of dog bite wounds generally heal within 5 to 7 days, so do not worry.
Take antibiotics small course as prescribed by your doctor and complete immunization with rabipur as per scheduled.
