How Is HIV Transmitted?

Question: Hi I recently had an encounter with an unkown status woman. She gave me a handjob while fingering me anally. She was dressed during the encounter. She used a finger cot it lasted about 5 minutes. I didn't see blood either on her fingers or my rectum but not sure, I checked the finger cot the next day there was no blood either. I did not see where she got the finger cot from, could I contract any std from that encounter even if I had a anal tear or the finger cot was not clean. What about HIV? Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer: No Imminent threat;precautionary check & treatment Detailed Answer: Hi there, If as you say unknown status, then anything is possible. However, going by your clinical descriptions & the lack of any tear or exchange of body fluids, this is highly unlikely. Yes if unsterile, you could catch some bacterial infection more likely than HIV. However, i would advise you to do a mRNA-PCR test for HIV that can detect viral loads as early as 1 week post exposure. If already done an ELISA test for HIV, repeat one after 6 mths & if both negative, then there is nothing to fear. It would be better to start on a prophylactic single dose antibiotic, something like Azithromycin 1 gm combined with Tinnidazole 2 gm & Fluconazole 200mg all taken as a one time single dose after meals will put any doubts to rest immediately. Good Luck & i trust this has given you a sense of direction & reassured you that all is well; all this i recommended is a 'precautionary' measure only. Good Luck & Godspeed. Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD

Thank you doctor for your reply. The incident took place about 2 weeks ago. What would the medication help me with? I live in the Middle East and do not want to go to doctors here. Are these drugs normal medication I can buy over the counter. Thanks again. I Will get tested when I travel which is in about 2 months.

Brief Answer: No need to go to a doctor there; Appears all OK. Detailed Answer: Hi there. I used to work for over a decade in the middle east & speak fluent Arabic to boot! Empathise with your predicament & assure you it all appears above board. The antibiotics et al are simply to allay any anxiety & act like a cocktail taking care of any superadded infection. Yes they may require a prescription but if the pharmacist is kindly, since they are all single doses, they may give it to you. Good Luck & don't worry, put it behind you & do test just for completion sake again when you are out of the country. Cheers & Godspeed! Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
