Question : Is laminectomy done using a "micro" procedure (though a one inch incision) or is the back opened up?
Brief Answer:
Microlaminectomy done through 2-3 cm incision only
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM
Microlaminectomy is done through much smaller incision than open Laminectomy.
The incision for Microlaminectomy is only 2-3 centimeters (Back will not be opened up). During Microlaminectomy the muscles covering vertebrae and spine will not be cut.
Most patients recover fast and go home in 2 days. Complete pain relief usually attained in 1-2 weeks.
