How Is Acute Subdural Hematoma Treated?
Craniotomy/Burr hole drainage.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
1. Acute subdural hematoma is usually treated by craniotomy(removing a scalp bone flap and again putting it in place after surgery),of the scalp area overlying blood.
2. If very large area of hematoma, then craniectomy(removing a scalp bone flap and not putting it back in place after the surgery) can be done.
3. Chronic subdural hematoma usually drained by making holes(burr holes) in the scalp and draining by suction through a small catheter. In this procedure, normal saline is used for irrigating and then suctioning.
