How Is Ureaplasma Infection Transmitted?
Question: I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with Cervicitis and BV. The doctor tested me for Trich, Chlymedia, and gonorrhea and the results came back negative. I was prescribed azithromycin and Metronidazole for treatment. I went back to the doctor once I completed the treatment and explained I had some pain/pressure in my vagina. Between this time frame I had protected sex. The doctor took some additional cultures and found I still had BV and ureaplasma. So I was given a clindamycin vaginal cream and doxycycline for treatment. Now I am feeling extreme pressure in the vagina and experiencing bloody mucus-like discharge. Is it possible due to sex or the ureaplasma the pain could be a result of cervicitis? Can ureaplasma cause cervicitis? My OBGYN explained that ureaplasma is not sexually transmitted but this is the 2nd time I have been diagnosed with this. Is possible that it was passed to me from my partner? If yes, should be treated?

In my opinion you have been tested for all the possible types of infection and finished the course of antibiotics covering them.
The pressure in the vagina might be due to cervicitis or UTI. In cervicitis, the cervix might be swollen and red leading to discomfort in the vagina and blood stained mucus discharge.
Also there is a possibility that during the intercourse the already red and swollen cervix might have injured and leading to blood mucus discharge.
Ureoplasma is not a major pathogen to cause significant problem and the antibiotics which you have taken might cover it. So you need not worry about that.
We can't definitely say that you contacted the infection or ureoplasma from partner unless he is tested for any genital infections.
I suggest you to get an urine examination done to rule out any urinary tract infection (UTI) as these organisms also cause urethral infection and UTI. UTI also sometimes might cause pressure in vagina and lower abdomen.
Also your doctor might have done pervaginal and perspeculum examination to rule out any cervical erosion which is a feature of cervicitis.
I suggest you to do a pap smear and cervical biopsy to confirm if it is the only infection or any abnormal cervix .
I suggest you to practice safe sex practices like condom usage. And keep the genital area hygienic.

Thank you for your response. I am currently on day 3 of the doxycycline. Do you know how long it make take for the cervicitis and ureaplama to clear? If I continue to practice safe sex with my partner is it likely I can get these infections again?
