How Long Nasonex Be Taken After Radiofrequency Ablation Of Nasal Turbinates?
As below:
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. Many of my patients start using their steroid nasal sprays 2-4 weeks after radio-frequency.
2. Some patients who have radiofrequency ablation of the nasal turbinates get a fibrinous exudate in the nose during the first 2 weeks. Some with predominantly surface radiofrequency get crusting and scabs. These conditions require nasal cleaning and saline nasal washes to clear. Some patients do not develop any of this and they can start the steroid nasal spray earlier. Some need no further treatment besides saline nasal drops. Patients with nasal allergy need further treatment, while post trauma patients may not require any further management.
3. Get a post-op nasal examination or preferably a video nasal endoscopy. Then let your specialist decide the need for any further treatment. There is no harm in using the Nasonex nasal spray earlier, however it may cause dryness, slight bleeding and discomfort in the nose. Steroids delay healing, however mucosal wounds recover quickly (in 3-5 days).
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. If you have allergic symptoms such as sneezing, nasal discharge, eye symptoms besides nasal obstruction, you will require the steroid nasal spray.
2. If you have intrinsic (vasomotor) rhinitis or have developed rhinitis medicamentosa as a result of overuse of decongestant nasal drops, you will also benefit from the steroid nasal drops.
3. Allergy may be non-specific (such as temperature, cold air, light, cold/warm water). Hence a negative allergy test to a few common allergens will not rule out allergy.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
