
How Long After Taking Dose Of Amoxicillin Can Root Canal Procedure Be Performed?

Question: i have an appointment in 5 days for a root canal. 21 days ago i was given prednisone for 5 days and the pain and swelling got worse, then he put me on amoxicillian for 5 days. now i have to go in for a root canal. is this too long to wait with a painful lump up above my tooth, also i can feel it thru my cheek. was i put on the correct medication?

As per your history, you are having abscess in that tooth.In such case you need to first go for antibiotic coverage before going for RCT.Prednisolone is steriod & is habit forming & affects immunity.Hence its not prescribed usually.Amoxicillin is right drug of choice in such case.Along with that you may start with diclo- para- serratio combination for pain & inflammation relief.
Get an x- ray done of associated tooth & if abscess is severe then go for apicectomy or extraction.
Consult your dentist for further treatment plan.
