How Long Do Proteins Remain In Body While They Half Many Times Over?
Question: Dear Doctor,
I have a question regarding 'half life of proteins. When a specific protein has a half life say 3 hours, i understand its molecular mass is halved in 3 hours. But if we continue halving and halving this many times over, we still have a figure of for example 0.000001 (when you keep dividing on a calculator you always get result of 0.0000)
does this mean protein lives forever in form of 0.0000 ?
Or before it reaches this minute figure it actually is excreted from our bodies?
Thanks and best regards

Brief Answer:
Proteins are cleaved by enzymes
Detailed Answer:
Good day
Noted your question. good one. Proteins ate made of multiple amino acids which are bonded together by chemical bonds. these bonds are lysed by enzymes . Hence after the half life of protein is over , these chemical bonds are cleaved by powerful protein lying enzymes and amino acids are released. part of these amino acids are reused by liver and other body structures to rebuild proteins. Partly it is exerted through stool or urine.Hence once the half life of protein is over , amino acids are reused or excreted out of body.
