How Long Does Vivitrol Block Opioid Receptors?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Question: Hello,

My question is in regards to receiving your second shot(or any subsequent shot) of Vivitrol during the 28-30 day window. For the initial shot it was imperative to not use any opiate and or Suboxone/Methadone 7-14days prior for fear of going in to severe precipitated withdrawals, my question is if any use occurs during the last 23-30days leading up to the next shot, will the shot cause the onset of precipitated withdrawals, or is the Vivitrol still present enough to smoothly transition in to the next 28-30 day cycle and continue blocking the receptors? I greatly appreciate any information you can provide regarding this matter and I thank you for your time.

Brief Answer:
It continue blocking and issue of severe withdrawal do not occur

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

Since Vivitrol is long acting injection it remains in the system and continues to block opioid receptors in the body for almost a month.

During this time if any opioid is ingested it does not cause significant pleasurable effect which leads in decrease in consumption of opioids.

In addition since there is no pleasurable effect no question of pecipitated withdrawal occurs even if there is shot of opioids in between.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
