How Long Does Complete Recovery From Shingles Take?
Question: I had the shingle shot and got shingles. I've had multiple prescriptions of Valacyclovir 1GM. The last one was for 3 a day for one week and 1 a day for 3 weeks. They returned after four weeks. Now I have a prescription for 3 a day for three days.
This has been going on for about four months. Are there other drugs to try? Will this continue indefinitely?

I read it carefully and I understand your concern.
If a person gets shingles it will stay hidden in the nerve all your life. It will become apparent when the persons immunity is weak, due to age or some problem like HIV or other who lower immunity.
It is very uncommon that you have gotten shingles from the shot, so I suspect all these reappearance of the shingles symptoms are happening because of your immunity.
Yes, you have to take the treatment when these symptoms happen. There is no way to remove shingles definitely but you can keep it under control if you take the treatment as recommended and as soon as possible within the first 72 hours when lesions appear.
These are the regimens of treatment, and Valacyclovir the best on my knowledge.
--Valacyclovir: 1000 mg three times daily for seven days
--Famciclovir: 500 mg three times daily for seven days
--Acyclovir: 800 mg five times daily for seven days
Why your doctors have given it you your for 3 days I don't know, maybe because of your kidney function or liver function.
