How Long Does It Take For Atenolol To Take Effect?

Question: I just started atenolol and I'm a little concerned. My blood pressure is 109/71 but my heart rate is 85. I take 25mg a day
Brief Answer:
Wait for few days.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Atenolol takes time to show its entire effect, so wait for few more days. Keep daily record of your blood pressure, so that doctor can understand your progress. Depending on that modifications can be made if at all needed.
Your current readings are not extremely worrisome, so relax.
Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.

I have some anxiety and im constantly checking my heart rate. This started one month ago when i took some supplements the chiropractor gave me for back pain. I ended up in the ER that night with a heart rate of 170. They told me in the ER that i had taken too much manganese 140mg which is a mineral. Ever since then my heart rate is up and down from 85-120. This is why i started the Atenolol
Brief Answer:
Looks like temporary issue then.
Detailed Answer:
In view of details, this looks like anxiety related tachycardia. And in that case this treatment with atenolol should suffice. Doctor might want to stop medication after few days. Just keep record of the Blood pressure reading.
