Brief Answer:
Normally swelling starts to subside in 2-3 weeks time

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion there are two kinds of swelling - one is operative and second id due to Deep Venous thrombosis.
The operative swelling starts to subside in 2-3 weeks time with normal management and walking+ exercises, while the swelling due to venous thrombosis may actually increase if no anti coagulant therapy is used. ( Use of anti coagulant therapy is routine now ).

I'm impressed with your answer. I feel a lot better now. I wasn't sure at all how long it would take to recede. Thank you Dr Goel.
