How Long Should Mebendazole Be Taken To Cure Pinworms In Stomach?
Question: hi , i took 100mg mebendazole for pinworms, but could feel them so i took 100 mg more 48 hours after the first dose, though you might say only one dose is recommended but i was desperate , (hope you understand), 2nd dose was yesterday, and its been over 72 hours since my first dose and 24 hours since last but these worms doesnt seem to go away, i saw them wriggling like threads in my stools today and can feel itch around anal area too. so when should i expect all this to end , also would the worms be seen dead in stools or they are excreted like live tiny threads even when you have taken mebendazole.

Hello dear,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Mebendazole should ideally be taken 100 mg twice a day for 3 days.
So, take them as i have advised again.
Start a fresh and take for 3 days.
Also, get your Stool Examination done so that we can see which worm it is.
You should repeat the same course after 15 days.
You will get relieved with in 3 days. The worms excreted are dead.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

Brief Answer:
Detail follows.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Many a times these worms are stick to intestinal walls, so they get detached and are not dead but flushed in stools.
We are not concerned that they are killed or not, we need to get rid of them!
Moreover since you had taken Mebandazole in incomplete doses so this might be the reason that they were not killed.
Follow as advised and review with me if after 3 days course the worms persist. I would tell you further medications that you might require.
If you have any further query please ask me, else close the discussion and rate it.
