How Long Should Nystatin Be Continued When Diagnosed With Thrush?

Question: how long should you be on Nystatin? I have been using liquid for nearly a month after being diagnosed with thrush. the Dr gave me 3 refills but no instructions as to how long I should use. I do not have any symptoms of thrush. I do use flonase for allergies and albuterol for asthma

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nystatin is an anti fungal medication. It can be used orally usually for up to 10 - 14 days (maximum ) or less (7 days is enough ).

Longer use as in your case is recommended in severe cases of thrush. The dosage usually is low dose for maintenance therapy.

Using asthma medications are (like in your case) is often associated with oral thrush.

If you have been using for 1 month already, then , I advise to stop taking it and consult further with your doctor to reevaluate thrush and further therapy.
