Brief Answer:
One needs to take prophylactic antibiotics for 4-6 weeks .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your quwey ,
Based on the facts that you have posted it seems that you have undergone surgery for TURP very recently for enlarged Prostate .

During TURP enlarged prostate gland (Adenoma) is resected resulting in to creation of a fossa .This fossa takes 6-8 weeks time to get healed up completely and till then there is inflammation at the site of resection .

It is always advisable to take antibiotics like Norfloxacin or Nitrofurantoin twice daily with frequent routine urine test once in a week and urine culture every three weeks so as to take antibiotics as per culture report .

Normally the issues like burning urination , urgency that follows after TURP get resolved within 6-8 weeks but may get extended depending upon the degree of infection prior to surgery .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .

Thanks and Regards.
