Brief Answer:
Enlargement of prostate can cause difficult catheterization

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir

I assume you are on Clean intermittent self catheterisation (CISC) for neurogenic bladder. With age there is non inflammatory enlargement of prostate, during catheterization the most difficult part to negotiate is Prostatic Urethra( the urethra passing through prostate).
Enlargement of Prostate can definitely cause difficult catheterisation. The trick for overcoming this is following

1. Thoroughly lubricate the catheter

2. When you encounter any resistance, wait for few seconds and then proceed pushing catheter in

3. Take deep breaths in and out while catheterising

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care

Brief Answer:
Trying stiffer catheter will help

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir

Cancer of prostate is unlikley to present at this age group. Its unlikely to be due to prostatitis in absence of symptoms like perineal pain, turbid urine and occasional fever.
Trying a stiffer catheter will be helpful.
