How Much Alcohol Per Day Is OK?
Thanks for your query.
I appreciate your efforts for medical consultation in so much distress.
Alcohol use daily in any amount is not ok for health, as drinking alcohol daily leads to development of tolerance (loss of euphoric effect of substance on same dose), which lead to gradual increase in alcohol use daily. Safe drinking is just marketing strategies of alcohol companies to promote its use.
To know the amount first there is need to understand what is 1 Drink/Peg mean:
A standard drink/Peg is equal to 14.0 grams of pure alcohol. Generally, this amount of pure alcohol is found in
340-grams of beer.
150-grams of wine.
40-grams or a “shot” of 80-proof distilled spirits or liquor (gin, rum, vodka, or whiskey).
According to National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) USA:
For men, low-risk alcohol consumption is drinking four or fewer standard drinks on any single day and less than 14 drinks during any given week. According to the NIAAA, to remain low risk, both the daily and weekly guidelines must be met.
With this pattern of consumption, less that 2% of drinkers ever develop alcohol use disorders:
According to the Dietary Guidelines in USA: Moderate alcohol consumption is defined as having up to 1 drink per day for women and up to 2 drinks per day for men.
This definition is referring to the amount consumed on any single day and is not intended as an average over several days. The Dietary Guidelines also state that it is not recommended that anyone begin drinking or drink more frequently on the basis of potential health benefits because moderate alcohol intake also is associated with increased risk of breast cancer, violence, drowning, and injuries from falls and motor vehicle crashes.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow ups.
Wish you good health.
