Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
Understood your concern.

Diabetes is a life long disese and the key to success is to be on a diet which you can follow long term. We often get confused by the crash diets prescribed in the internet.

May i know your weight and height and duration of diabetes? Any other problems like high cholesterol or hypertension? Any eye/heart/kidney/feet complications from diabetes ? It is essential to know this before i can suggest a diet.

Generally, a diet low in simple carbohydrates ( direct sugar, honey etc) and high in complex carbohydrates ( bread/cereals etc) is helpful. Limit alcohol to maximum 2 drnks per day. Inlude non starchy vegetables in your diet. HAve atleast a cup of a probiotic drink ( like yogurt) . Drink atleast 250 ml of low fat milk a day ( with your breakfast cereals or at night before you sleep).

Instead of eating 3 large meals, we advice people with diabetes to eat 3 small meals and 3 snacks. This means that, you have your morning breakfast as early as possible, then have mid morning snack by around 10 - 10.30 am, lunch by 12.30 -1 pm and 4 pm another snack, dinner by 6.30- 7 pm. Before you sleep, you can have another small bed time snack.

Snacks could be a glass of low fat milk, a piece of brown bread, a piece of fruit etc. Try to include atleast 2-3 portions of different fruits per day.

Limit red meat and try to buy lean meat as much as possible. If possible, avoid processed meat like sandwitch meat, salami etc. Try to eat oliy fish like sardines/salmon/tuna/mackreal atleast 3 times a week. Reduce the intake of salt.

It is important to engage in walking or any other exercise which you enjoy for atleast 30-45 minyes a day.

It is not impossible to follow a healthy diet and i strongly recommend to meet a dietician who is an expert in diabetes.

In fact, there is nothing called diabetic diet. It should be a healthy and balanced diet every one should ideally follow.

wish you good health. Please do not hesitate if you want to ask any more questions.

Regards
Binu
