Question: My 14 year old granddaughter has mood swings that are not violent but very loud and screams a lot. This didn't jut start. It has been going for several years. She is on medication for ADHD. Also, medicine for anger cotrol. When she doesn't take it or forgets to take it she constantly talks. She has problems at home with outbursts. I just want to get her the right kind of help.

Brief Answer:
sounds like bipolar disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
It definitely sounds like she may have bipolar disorder. It is hard to know if the medications she is on are helping or making things worse.
Clearly she is not controlled or she would not be having these outbursts. I suggest that you try to get her in to see a child psychiatrist as soon as possible.
If she does have bipolar disorder it is very important that she get on the correct medication for this as soon as possible.
Ongoing counseling is always advised by someone that is expert in child psychology and psychiatry.
However, in order to get the correct treatment in medications or therapy you must have the correct diagnosis. This is best done by a child psychiatrist.
Try to get her seen by one immediately
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
