How To Diagnose IBS?
Question: Why is it so hard to diagnose IBS? I've had stomach issues for many years and after all what I went thru no one ever suggested that I might have IBS. My last doctor visit I was told that I should try drugs for IBS (some new drug that I have to get special permission from my medical plan) so is there a way to know for sure? or is it just a stab in the dark?
Brief Answer:
IBS diagnosis of exclusion
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorry to hear your frustration over IBS. The diagnosis of IBS is actually a diagnosis of exclusion. In other words you test for everything else and when nothing else is diagnosed then your left with IBS. For years we have tried all sorts of diets and medications with little really helping. You can only try and see if something works there are no tests or medications specifically for IBS. It is frustrating and debilitating for many people but we have very little to offer.
