How To Distinguish Between Migraine Headache And Intracranial Pressure?
Thank you.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for writing to let me know how things are going with you it's nice to get feedback from patients on their condition, a good doctor always learns from his patients.
I must be honest though and confess first though that I haven't personally written an e-mail to you. I wouldn't be able to, as your email wasn't included in your query which I answered and I am not aware of an option where I can get your email, only moderators I believe can do that. Perhaps it was one of the moderators who has read our exchange and inquired after your condition as a faithful patient of HealthCareMagic.
Reading back our last exchange I see that I did list shunt malformation which causes raised intracranial pressure as a possibility as well suggesting you to use acetazolamide if your neurosurgeon considers that as a possibility. Signs of intracranial pressure can be difficult to distinguish from migraine as both can be very similar in their symptoms and at times only duration of the headache and evolution in time can make the distinction. At times a lumbar puncture is needed as well both for the diagnosis and if pressure too high can be a temporary therapy by evacuating fluid.
I hope you will get better soon, feel free to ask further questions.
