Question: I'm currently 6and a half months pregnant and I smoke marijuana. I smoke for my anxoity which is pretty bad. I've cut down from smoking every day about 4 times a day to maybe once a week. How can I clear my system for myself and my child naturally? Water and cranberry juice?

Brief Answer:
Information.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I see that you want to stop using marijuana while pregnant and that is good. There really isn't a specific way to clear it from your body, but it will clear naturally without doing anything at all once you stop using it.

I don't care that much about whether people use marijuana or not normally, but in pregnancy it does have the potential to cause some harm to the baby. http://www.acog.org/About-ACOG/News-Room/News-Releases/2015/Ob-gyns-Warn-Against-Marijuana-Use-for-Pregnant-Women

Since you have enough anxiety that you have felt the need to self medicate with marijuana, I strongly recommend that you talk with your obstetrician about medication to treat this. Some of the antidepressant medications (SSRIs, bupropion) are considered relatively safe in pregnancy. It takes a few weeks for these to kick in, so I recommend considering seeing your OB now and starting ASAP so that you don't need to rely on marijuana if your anxiety gets worse again.

You might also want to talk with a psychologist about techniques for dealing with stress and anxiety. And, consider simple mindfulness meditation techniques such as "four by four breathing" as this can help too.

Sorry I can't tell you a trick for clearing out the marijuana, but don't worry as it will leave your system.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
