Brief Answer:
Hello, I would be happy to help...
Detailed Answer:
Okay, first of all, your doctor is giving you a course of
hormone therapy that is usually reserved for women who are POST-menopausal. They are making some assumptions about your
hormonal status and this is not necessarily the best thing for you. Here is my impression and what should happen:
1. You had a last period in 1/2013
2. 6 months later, you had 15 days of bleeding
3. 6 months later, you had a "period"
4. You then completed a month of
estrogen /
progesterone with no bleeding
5. You are presuming that you are PRE-menopausal because the definition of POSTmenopause is 12 months without any bleeding
Here is the workup that should happen (before throwing more hormones at your
uterus):
1. Any woman over the age of 40 with abnormal / irregular bleeding needs to see an OB/GYN
2. At that visit, you need an exam, an
endometrial biopsy, and eventually an ultrasound
3. Once pre-cancerous or cancer related changes have been ruled out, then it is worth talking about ways to regulate your cycle
4. One of the simplest ways is to just put you on a low-dose birth control pill.
5. In most cases, this might be continued until the average age of menopause (51-52) and then stopped.
I hope that this helps! Let me know.
