How To Lower GGT Level?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Obstruction of external biliary tract suspected
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
GGT is gamma glutamyl transferase.
GGT is a liver enzyme and it is predominantly stored in the biliary epithelium.
Obstruction in the external biliary tract leads to elevation of the levels of GGT.
Obstruction can be external to biliary tract, can be within or can be due to some other obstructive lesion.
GGT levels usually increase parallel to levels of alkaline phosphatase, another liver enzyme.
Alcoholic liver disease can also cause increase in GGT levels, however, it is accompanied by increase in 5-nucleotidase levels which is another liver enzyme.
I suggest you to consult a physician with the report.
An ultrasound abdomen will assess the status of abdominal organs. and external biliary tract.
Further management will be decided by the result of the above mentioned investigations.
If you more queries, i will be glad to answer.

I had started drinking a lot but have given up completely since the past two weeks .
What can I do to get the gift level to normal . Is this range of GGT FATAL even after all other tests are normal
Normal finding
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
No, the elevated level of GGT in the absence of any abnormality of other enzymes and a normal ultrasound is not dangerous.
There is no need to worry. You can get the liver function tests repeated after 5-6 months.
Thanks and take care
