Question: My Mother Gamma GT is over 600. has been increasing for the past 2 months. SGPT and SGOT was high too but she was given a medication and now they are improving. (now SGOT 68, SGPT 130) We wonder why the Gamma GT is very high and keep increasing.. She does not drink alcohol. Please advise what to do to lower the gamma GT. what is the possible cause of this?

Yes,GGT level is definitely very high.SGOT and SGPT is still raised.
GGT is originated primarily from hepatobiliary system and GGT is elevated in many forms of liver disease.
Increased values may be due to many reasons.
It is maximum increased in hepatic biliary obstruction and it is very helpful in detecting obstructive jaundice,cholangitis,cholecystitis,hepatitis,tumour,drug use etc.
Your mother need few investigations for confirming the cause.She need routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile,Prothrombin time,Ultrasound of abdomen.CT Scan of abdomen can be done depending upon ultrasound findings.FNAC/Biopsy can be done if needed.
Proper treatment depend upon clinical findings and investigation reports.
You should consult Gastroenterologist.
