How To Reduce Xanax And Vicodin Dosage?

Please do not decrease/quit on your own
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
You are on xanax(alprazolam) 6-8 mg and vicodin (hydrocodone) 30 mg. Both are higher doses than recommended. Both drugs have high dependence potential and can cause severe withdrawal symptoms.
In xanax withdrawal siezure can also occur.
In my view, you should ask your doctor about your high dose and according to his opinion and preferabally in hospital indoor stay your dose should be reduced.
Specific answer for your question is you can decrease on your own with caution.
You can reduce dose of xanax 0.5 mg every second day and 2.5 mg of vicodin every second day. By this manner you can reach to your prescribed dose (acceptable dose) of xanax in 25 days and of vicodin in 20 days.
You are welcome for follow up query if it is there.

Reduce dose of xanax.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back with follow up query.
I appreciate your effort to consult rehab center.
Librium is long acting benzodiazepine which can control withdrawal of xanax but not of those of hydrocodone(vicodin).
Hydrocodone is synthetic opioid and diarrhea is one of the withdrawal features of opioid withdrawal. Generally propoxyphen or burenorphine is given as substitute to control withdrawal of opioid. So diarrhea is not due to rapid reduction but due to no substitution for vicodin.
So in most of the opioid withdrawal ,treatment is given as indoor because this substance comes under narcotic acts in most of the countries.
For xanax you have mentioned dose range of 6-8 mg. So you can start with 8 mg and reduce 0.5 mg every second day as I mentioned before.
I have given instructions if you want to reduce drug on your own.But if you want rapid reduction, indoor deaddiction treatment is must to prevent any serious withdrawal.
I will be happy to help further,
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
