Brief Answer:
Topical steroid lotion+antidandruff shampoo
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic
I am Dr, Kakkar. I have gone through your concern and I have understood it.
Dandruff or seborrheic
dermatitis is an important cause of increased hair shedding. Dandruff is bound to recur again, therefore people with dandruff should use an antidandruff shampoo rather than using a regular shampoo, to keep the dandruff under check.
If I was your treating doctor I would have asked you to use an antidandruff lotion/shampoo. My choice is 2%
ketoconazole shampoo, thrice weekly for 2-4 weeks followed by once or twice weekly for maintenance. It is available OTC.
Sometimes this alone seems insufficient. In that case your
dermatologist might prescribe you a topical steroid lotion(
clobetasol or
mometasone lotion), to be applied twice daily for 2 weeks.
The topical steroid lotion can be stopped once the dandruff is well controlled and thereafter the improvement can be sustained with just an antidandruff lotion/shampoo.
Tugain lotion contains
minoxidil in an alcohol base, and even though minoxidil is a non-specific hair growth promoter, it rarely works in hair shedding related to dandruff and moreover because it is available in an alcoholic base, it in turn causes scalp dryness and scaling, thereby exacerbating the problem further, as has happened in your case.
Follihair (a biotin supplement) similarly is unlikely to be beneficial in your case because the underlying cause in your case is dandruff and not Biotin deficiency.
Therefore, if I was the treating doctor I would have suggested you to use a topical steroid lotion (clobetasol or mometasone lotion) for faster relief from dandruff and resultant hair fall. The remarkable improvement that would be achieved with topical potent steroid lotion can be sustained/maintained by using an antidandruff shampoo, twice or once weekly, regularly.
