ENTIRE PROCEDURE EXPLAINED
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
First and foremost, the process of medical abortion with pills should be carried out under supervision of a gynecologist.
Let me explain the process in detail though.
First of all the pregnancy should be confirmed by a gynecologist.
Then it should be dated by an ultrasound scan because the pills work within a specific time frame only.
The pill kit generally contains 1 tablet of Mifepristone and 4 tablets of Misoprostol.
1 tablet of Mifepristone is given at once orally , followed 24 hours later by 2 tablets of Misoprostol vaginally / orally and then 2 more another 24 hours later.
AFter this, you would have bleeding with cramps and expulsion of a fleshy mass.
Heavy bleeding lasts for a few days, and spotting / bleeding might continue upto 2 weeks.
A follow up scan after 2 weeks is essential to check that the abortion succeeded and the uterine cavity is empty.
There are certain side effects of the abortion process that you should be aware of.
Severe uncontrolled bleeding might occur rarely.
If you do not follow all steps of precaution, there might be rarely an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy, fainting , infection etc.
Pros are that you would have an abortion safely in more than 95 % of cases, without risk of a surgery .
In 4 % of cases, the pills might fail , and you might require surgical abortion.
Rarely , persistent sequelae like infection may prevail.
If you vomit any of the pills within 4 hours of consumption, repeat the dosage.
Please do not self undertake the abortion, just make sure you do everything under guidance of a gynecologist.
After the abortion, please use reliable contraceptive method for atleast 3 months.
If bleeding is heavy, she would need to take iron supplements for 3 months.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.

NOTHING TO WORRY
Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
You need to complete the entire course of medications, as otherwise, there is a risk of incomplete abortion, and then she would need surgical abortion, which would be worse for her.
Slight weakness is common.
There is nothing to panic.
If she is unconscious or fainting, consult your doctor.
Ask her to rest.
Also, she can eat anything, whatever she feels like having; there are no special precautions in diet. Give her plenty of fluids.
Please complete the entire course of medications.
Don’t worry, she will be fine.
Take care.
