Question : I was placed on 30mg oxy.....for the back pain about a year and a half ago.
However, I felt that I abused them...I know I abused them. I want to get off of this medication. Whats the best way? Everytime I try, I get sick with withdrawals.

Brief Answer:
taper by 25 % and add gabapentin

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

An appropriate method of tapering the oxycodone can lead to lower withdrawal effects.

Firstly , taper initial dose by 25 percent every week approximately. Each week that would be a 7.5 mg reduction.

Add Gabapentin 300 mg tds along with the tapering schedule and continue it with the oxycodone till , the dose of oxycodone is at a minimum, you may stop gabapentin at any moment as it doesn't have a serious withdrawal effect.

Please consult your doctor before making any changes to your medication.
