How To Withdraw From Temazepam Slowly?
Question: How des one wean himself off temazepam? I have been taking it for years but I want to get off of it because I am having increasing memory problems and I've heard it can contribute to these problems. I have not taken any temazepam for two nights now, and have slept ok. I have had no other side effects, other than some diarrhea. I have heard that you need to wean off drugs, or you may have serious reactions.

There are many ways to wean off temazam. First I need to know the dose and indication for starting temazepam.
1- This can be cross titrated with a benzodiazepine of long half life like chlordiazepoxide or diazepam. It means we start one of these medicines and increase the dose slowly over a week, while temazepam is reduced simultaneously. This reduces withdrawal symptoms considerably.
2- it can be with drawn very very slowly, say 5% of the dose daily . It can be done by mixing the dose of drug in juice , mixing thoroughly and rejecting 5% of the juice! taking the rest? This way, the drug can be stopped slowly.
3- benzos can be stopped suddenly under cover of drug like beclofen . It neutralises any withdrawal symptoms.
Dose and tolerance to withdrawal symptoms determine which method should be used. Some are very sensitive , others are tough and can tolerate considerable problems. how much motivated you are is of prime importance.
