I Had Gastric Bypass Surgery On 7/15 And My Gallbladder
Question: I had gastric bypass surgery on 7/15 and my gallbladder surgery on 9/25.
I’ve had a rough few months but now up until recently I have had issues with bloating that I started measuring my stomach i bloated almost 4 inches and it’s very uncomfortable and painful. I am not sure what’s going on plus I keep getting pain near my
Belly button that is off and on too. I am barely eating as food is making me nauseous again. Any suggestions ? I went to the emergency room on Tuesday and everything came back clear. The cat scan only revealed mild abdominal wall scarring.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Sometimes, gallbladder removal may have an impact on bloating and digestion for a few months after surgery, but in your case, it is more possible that gastric bypass is causing it.
You should do a barium enema swallowing test to see if there is a problem with peristalsis or bowel stenosis. You should avoid fried, spicy and carbonated food and drinks, have boiled and high fiber food, take magnesium supplements, and have smaller meals.
If there is no improvement, you should do colonoscopy and MRI to rule out some disorders not related to your previous surgery.
Wish you good health.
Regards

Hello
I am already avoiding all that. All I had yesterday was 2 protein shakes and 1 protein bar to try and rest my stomach.
But thank you I will talk to my surgeon.
Can you have a bowel stenosis and still pass gas and some bowel movements ?

Hello.
Yes, stenosis can develop on every connection between bowels or between the stomach and bowel. This is possible after gastric bypass.
Stenosis is partial occlusion and in this can you can have gas and normal bowel movements. Pure protein shakes may not be a good option, since it may worsen stomach discomfort.
In every case, I think that barium based imaging test should be done, irigography, or bowel enema.

Thank you I will follow up with my bariatric surgeon soon to discuss how to get relief. I have been taking fiber, probiotics, stool softeners and also milk of magnesia to get some relief.
I think he thinks my gastritis is back because he wants me to take carafate again but that has caused bad constipation for me.
I keep getting bouts of pain near my umbilical area off and on and pressure. I just want to feel normal again.

Hello again.
Yes, it may always be gastritis but this is not typical pain for it.
It may improve on itself, but I suggest to see surgeon and do these tests I mentioned.
If you have any questions in future fell free to contact me.
Wish you good health.
