I Have Gas To The Extent Of Not Being Able

Question: I have gas to the extent of not being able to control it in public. I can take Gas X and two beanos and it will get under control. When I have a bowel movement, many times I have to go to bathroom 2-3 times to completely elimate my bowels. I do not have pain but I believe I have bloating. I just had a colonoscopy in April. They said everything was fine. I question this. 3 years ago I was told I had a polp but not cancerous. and he did not mention divertilious which supposedly I have.Should I have another colonoscopy? I feel something might have been missed. Or should I get a pap smear? I was told I did not need to have them anymore.I question that as well. But my female doctor retired. What do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
I suggest non-invasive tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to slow peristalsis in intestine. It could be age related or maybe related to any medical condition like diabetes that can affect the nervous system.

You may want to get a copy of all your reports to confirm the findings yourself.

Its better to have a colonoscopy once a year. Slow bowels and bloating do not reqiure emergency colonoscopy.

Pap smear is basically done to rule out any cancers. So medically and considering your age, pap smear would not be of much help.

I would suggest non-invasive tests for you:
- ultrasound whole abdomen to look for any "missed" lumps.
- Stool examination for ova, parasites, culture and sensitivity, occult blood.

Meanwhile I suggest a regular tummy massage and cleaner drinking water with low TDS.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
