IBS After Taking Typhoid Medications. Have Sleep Disorder, Diabetes & Thyroid Problem. Prescribed Rabium & Normaxin For IBS, Taking Alprazom To Get Sleep. Is There Any Issue Continuing With Normaxin?

I have Irritable bowel syndrom after taking medicines for typhoid. I consulted a gastroenrlogist and he prescribe me Rabium DSR 1 -0-1 before meal aand Normaxin 1-1-1 after meal. Before taking the medication I have sleepless nights and I was taking alprazolam also for getting sleep. After taking IBS medicines, I have enough sleep. I slowly reduced the dose of medicines and taking 1 normaxin after dinner at night. I have been taking these medicines since last 2 years. I am a diabetic and have thyroid problem also. Is there any problem I f I continue to take Normaxin. Otherwise I am not getting sleep.

T. Normaxin is an antispasmodic drug, which contains chlordiazepoxide, clidinium bromide & dicyclomine hydrochloride.
Out of these three drugs it is only chlordiazepoxide, which is helping you to take better sleep. Thus you are taking two drugs (clidinium bromide & dicyclomine hydrochloride) without any need.
In my opinion it will be better for you to consult your physician in this regard, so that he can prescribe you a better combination of drugs, thus avoiding unnecessary medicine.

I HAVE CONDUCTED ENDOSCOPY AND OTHER BLOOD TESTS AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I MET AGAIN MY GASTROENROLOGIST AND HE ADVISED ME TO CONTINUE RABIUM AND NORMAXIN. I ASKED MY DIABETES DR. AND HE TOLD ME TO CONTINUE NORMAXIN AS THERE IS NO SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS MEDICINES.
I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL OTHER ALOPATHY, AYURVEDIC AND HOMEO MEDICINES, BUT THERE IS NO HELP.
AS I AM TAKING THIS NORMAXIN ONE TAB DAILY AFTER DINNER WITH MY CHOLESTROL MEDICINES, SOMETIMES I AM IN TENSE THINKING THAT IF THERE IS ANY SIDE EFFECTS IF I CONTINUE TO TAKE THIS.

As every drug has some side effects, Normaxin also have, but we have to weigh advantages over disadvantages before using any drug. In your case advantages with normaxin are more, thus we can neglect disadvantages. Generally there is no major side effect with this drug on continuation.
Tab. Normaxin is a perfect combination of drugs to treat irritable bowel syndrome, which takes care of your acidity problem also, but if you are taking it only for sleep, can try other drugs containing single salt only, like tablet containing only nitrazepam salt.
In your case dicyclomine hydrochloride, which is an anti spasmodic is probably not required. Thus you can try T. Librium also, which contains only two salts.
In addition to medicines you should try to improve your sleep hygiene, avoid fried and spicy food, drink more water and have some exercises regularly.

Tablet Normaxin contains chlordiazepoxide, clidinium bromide & dicyclomine hydrochloride salts,
Tablet Librax contains contains chlordiazepoxide & clidinium bromide salts in same quantity &
Tablet Librium contains only 10/20 mg of chlordiazepoxide salt.
For gas problem you should try one tablet of Unienzyme just after dinner.
For acidity you can continue Tablet Rabium-DSR on empty stomach.
At the same time you should taper the dose of Tablet Normaxin.
After stopping Normaxin whenever you feel that you are not getting sleep, can take 1/2 tablet of Librium 10mg just before going to bed.
If you are not taking Rabium-DSR, can take one tablet Librax for sleep and acidity, but if you feel no relief, can switch back to tablet Normaxin also.
But in my opinion you should take none of these regularly.
Tablet Normaxin should not be suddenly stopped. To take proper decision, you should discuss all this with your physician & take treatment accordingly.
