Infant Has Not Passed Stool For Long Time, Passing Gas. Cause And Treatment?

Question: Hi, my son is 50 days old and from last almost 36 hours he has not passed stool. He is acting cranky and passing gas. Is it something to worry about and can you suggest any medicine for this, please.
Brief Answer:
look for abdominal distension or vomiting
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I assume your baby is breast fed and is feeding well and not vomiting?
A breast fed baby should pass stool at least 3-4 times per day if feeds are sufficient.
So you can do the following
1 check whether his tummy looks big or bloated - in this case you take him urgently tho the doctor preferably a pediatric surgeon.
2 If there is vomiting associated with abdominal distension also pl o o the doctor immediately.
3 if tummy is soft, and he is not vomiting, you can watch him.
You can give duphalac syrup 2.5 m.l. and watch for stool.
4 he will need thyroid function test if not done earlier.
Good luck
God bless
