Question: my new born baby (8days old) got chicken pox, any treatment? any vaccine? she born in normal delivery.

Congratulation on birth of baby girl.

First of all please take your baby to a neonatologist for evaluation if not done. Normally chicken pox at this time is due to maternal exposure to virus during pregnancy.


In case of mild infection, nothing is required.

Depending upon the severity varicella immunoglobulin or antiviral treatment is required.


Vaccine can be given at this age, as their immune system is not mature for vaccines to work.

Please discuss this with your doctor, if needed some tests may be advised and depending upon the clinical examination of child further management can be advised.
