Is 3rd Gen HIV Test Done After 12 Weeks Conclusive?

Question: Hello dr. Iv had a risky sexual encounter 14 weeks ago, i tested for hiv 4th gen at 7 weeks and 10 weeks plus another 3rd gen at 12 weeks, my symptoms were just like seem to be a genital ulcer but im not sure if it was a cut or not, do you think i should test another at 6 months?

I understand your concern and situation.

I realize that your test is negative at 12 weeks. So it is 99.99% chances that you will remain positive at 6 months. But yes as per international guidelines I would suggest you to take tests at 6 months although it is unlikely to be positive. The cause of genital ulcer can be multiple. I would suggest you to take tests for PCR test for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Also get VDRL test and FTA ABs for syphilis. Also get swab collection done and tested for gram staining and culture sensitivity for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. I would advise you treatment according.
