Is A Positive Blood Group Compatible With O Negative Blood Group?
Question: Hi Doctor!
I am 33 year old guy and my blood group is A positive and have proposal for a partner who is 25 year old and her blood group is O negative.
Before proceeding ahead with this proposal I would like to ensure our blood group compatibility .
Rest all things are clear,only I will be taking the decision based on our blood group compatibility as I have heard that +ve and -ve blood groups are not compatible.I just wanted your scientific opinion on it.This will help me to choose my life partner.

I am glad to see the awareness of youth these days.
Let me tell you in detail. See + and -ve is Rh incompatibility. With this you both won't have any problems in your life. But when your partner would conceive , then there can be problem. Suppose the baby becomes Rh -ve, then there won't be any problem. But if baby becomes Rh positive and since mother is Rh negative so the first baby would be born normally. But at the time of delivering mother would get exposed to Rh positive antigens from the baby and her body will start forming antibodies against Rh positive antigen.
Now when she will conceive again, if the baby becomes Rh negative there would not be any problem. But if baby becomes Rh positive, the preformed antibodies inside mother would attack the baby leading to devastating consequences.
However, these days we don't worry for this because with well educated people like you, we advice to give Anti D injection after first delivery which prevents formation of antibodies as I told you.

Rh incompatibility is not a contraindications to get married. You just have to aware during family planning.

Thanks for the clarification.Being from medical background I had done some research on on this by topic by reading literature and had to get an opinion formed by this research from an expert like you.
I have few questions further on your explanation on the basis of reproduction,
1)From few articles I read,I learnt that in the case where partners are of opposite Rh factors ,as in my typical case where I am A +ve whereas my partner is O -ve,the incompatibility affects the first child itself but as per your explanation,the first child is safe.Do u exactly mean that the first child is safe irrespective of Rh incompatibility?In this case does the antigens formed in the mother's body due to Rh incompatibility affect mothers health,even if the couple doesn't wish a second child?
2)In case of husband and spouse being of opposite Rh factors as in my case,what are the chances of the baby acquiring father's blood group?what is % probability?.How is the baby's blood group determined?.
3)The anti D injections which are given to ovoid isoimmunization process(incompatibility of Rh factors),are they full proof and 100% effective?
Do these injections have any side effect during pregnancy on the baby or the mother or later in their life?
4)In my typical case where I am A +ve whereas my partner is O -ve,is it better compatibility than being A +ve and A -ve or any other +ve and -ve combination??
5)What are the devastating consequences,which u stated, if the baby is A +ve in my case.Is it foetal abortion in the womb or the baby is born with defects or disease in it?is it that baby is diabetic??If so can it be detected in early stage of pregnancy and treated or aborted??
