Is BP Of 176/99 And A Pulse Rate Of 65 A Cause For Concern?
colesterol.
Nothing to be worried about
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
The phenomenon she experienced is probably an extrasystole or "skipped heart beat", as known popularly. This happens when a certain part of the heart muscle generates an electrical impulse, not the original pacemaker of the heart, the sinus node. After this ectopic beat, the sinus node takes control by supressing this ectopic area, producing a more forceful, pounding beat. This is nothing to be worried about.
Now, sleep is characterized by two phases, one of which is the rapid-eye-movement phase (REM phase). During this phase, there is a surge of adrenalin in the circulation and a marked brain activity. Due to this, blood pressure may be raised and heart rate increased and ectopic heart beats may be found, among other effects of the adrenalin in the system. This phenomenon of waking up with pounding beats and high blood pressure are due to this rationale, and may happen to everyone, regardless the age. Therefore, my opinion is that there is nothing to be worried about.
I hope my answer is helpful. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
