Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Yes, taking an antihistamine is the right thing to do.

If you have any swelling of your lips, tongue, or airways, then go to the ER immediately.

Otherwise you can treat it at home with antihistamines.

With Benadryl, take 50 mg every 6 hours.

If that doesn't control it and the itching continues or develops hives hives, then do go in to the urgent care clinic or ER where thy may also give you a a short course of oral corticosteroids to dampen your immune response. But this may not be necessary.

It is good to try to think on what you may have eaten or been exposed to that set this off, but it isn't always possible to identify the cause. Sometimes a virus can set it off.

I hope this helps and you are feeling better soon!
