Is Bupropion Advisable When Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jun 2017
Question: Good afternoon. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have tried just about everything there is as far as antidepressants and other meds approved for fibro in the course of 7 years. I've just been put on bupropion XL a month ago in addition to my lexapro and taken off of tramadol. I felt ok until this past week when my confusion and cognitive function have declined drastically. My psychiatrist is scared of serotonin syndrome even though that's never happened to me in 7 years. Anyway can bupropion cause more brain fog for fibro sufferers? It went from an annoyance to debilitating as far as my job goes in a matter of a few days. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Yes it can cause severe side effects

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but unfortunately bupropion can lead to psychological disturbances in nearly 50% of the cases . these side effects tend to decrease when the dose is reduces. it also cause insomnia, anxiety, confusion, decreased memory, delusions, depression, disturbed concentration, euphoria, hallucinations which occurs in 1-10% of cases .
unfortunately it also have some negative effects on the central nervous system as it might predispose to seizures, Dizziness, headache, sedation, decreased memory, myoclonus, paresthesia..
if the side effects are interfering with your daily life or work you need to refer to your doctor to keep the dose at or below 150 mg per day or to change the prescription . I hope I answered your question.
