Hi,

Yes, Dulcolax (Bisacodyl) can cause pain and burn in the lower stomach as well as bloating. These are common side effects of this medication. It is a stimulant laxative that works by stimulating the muscles in the intestine to push stool out. This can cause cramping and discomfort in the lower abdomen.

It is important to note that using Dulcolax frequently, such as 4 to 5 times a week, can lead to dependence and worsen constipation in the long run. It is recommended to use it only as directed by a doctor or pharmacist and to try other methods to manage constipation, such as increasing fiber intake, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly.

If you continue to experience pain and discomfort in the lower stomach, it is recommended to speak with your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment options to help manage your constipation and reduce any discomfort or pain you may be experiencing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Hi,

Dulcolax is a laxative medication that works by stimulating bowel movements. While it is generally well tolerated, it can cause some side effects, including abdominal cramping, discomfort, and pain.

Pain and burning in the lower stomach can be a side effect of Dulcolax use, especially if it is taken frequently or in higher doses than recommended. Additionally, the bloating you are experiencing may also be a side effect of the medication.

It is important to note that overuse of laxatives can lead to dependence, which can make it harder to have bowel movements without them. It is recommended to use laxatives only as directed and to try to address the underlying cause of constipation, such as through dietary changes, hydration, and exercise.

If you continue to experience pain and discomfort after taking Dulcolax, you should speak with your healthcare provider. They may recommend alternative treatments or further evaluation to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
