Is Cefepime An Effective Medication For Advanced Liver Cirrhosis?

Question: I have advanced liver cirrhosis and on a transplant list. It appears like I'm gonna hafta be on continual antibiotic because every time I finish a stretch of antibiotic I'm sick in less than a week. (infection in excessive abdominal fluid) Cipro is no longer effective. cefepime worked remarkably well. After 2g intravenously I felt completely well (in just 6 hours). Would that antibiotic be safe to use continually, possibly on a reduced dosage?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I feel sorry for the situation you are in.
Cefepim in a 4 th generation of cephalospirine group, it is strong and really good.
BUT if I were your treating doctor i would not prefer to use it continually, because you will be resistant to this product and candida overgrowth with be present.
So to my opinion talk with your doctor to use this medication 5-7 days per month but not continuously.
Hope it was helpful to you!
