Is Ciprofloxacin Advisable For Type 2 Diabetic Patient?
Question: I have a prescription for CIPRO , 500 mg from my eurologist. I just read on-line the warnings. Being a Type 2 Diabetic, is it okay for me to consume this ? It is to be taken for a week before a Hydra Cele evacuation. Before, with, or after a meal ? The possible side effects scare me, especially the joint explosion - I am a Post-Polio survivor walking in steel and leather braces.
Brief Answer:
it's OK
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
ciprofloxacin (the active ingredient) is a commonly used antibiotic in diabetics and the general population for urinary tract infection (mostly). It can be taken with or without meals but when taken with an empty stomach it's absorbed faster (thus it's preferable). There is some potential for tendon injury but the risk is low and only patients with prior Achilles tendon rupture should be cautious.
