Difficulty In Bending Finger, Pain After Hurting Middle Finger. No Fracture In X Ray. Recommendations?

My teenage son hurt the middle of his middle finger. Initially Dr. said it was broken, the end of the bone appeared to have a small chip on the side, it was slightly noticeably. We were told to splint it for one week and see doctor then. Later that day radiologist said he did not see a fracture. Confused...Dr. Said he still thinks it is and we should re xray in a week. Do later X-rays show this better? He still cannot fully bend it or touch certain spots without pain.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in the finger on bending with no bone injury can be due to a tendon injury in the area. Adequate rest is needed for proper healing. You can do the strapping of the finger with the next finger and take mild pain killers for relief.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
