Is Ciprofloxacin Safe To Take While On Coumadin?
Question: can I take ciprofloxacin while I am taking coumadin.

I have sore throat, runny nose and cough

the answer is yes although I hope this is not intended to treat sore throat and runny nose! Ciprofloxacin may indeed interact with coumadin and increase the INR is some patients (like if you've taken more coumadin) but it can't be predicted. It does not occur in all patients or in a predictable fashion. You should suspect a mean increase of approximately 0.5 with concurrent use. If you're going to take both drugs then close monitoring is advised. Measuring the INR every 2-3 days and whenever you experience bleeding sounds a reasonable approach.
